Greedy
2016 — Acrylics on strung canvas, 120x80
Greedy by Tine Vandamme

Greedy captures a playful yet insightful moment of indulgence, reflecting on human nature’s desire for more, even when there’s already enough. The figure in the painting, holding a tray laden with food, is depicted mid-action, reaching for a fry from a friend’s tray, despite having a full plate in front of her. The word "CIOUS" across her shirt hints at the feeling of something being "delicious," but it also subtly suggests the deeper concept of craving—when the hunger for more becomes an insatiable desire, even when we’re already satisfied.

The vibrant, energetic brushstrokes give the scene a sense of immediacy, highlighting the playful but almost guilty pleasure of taking something that isn't needed. This act of stealing a bite from a friend’s tray becomes a metaphor for human greed—how we often seek more than we need, driven by desire and temptation, even when we already have plenty.

Through Greedy, Vandamme captures the contradiction in our behavior: the constant chase for more, even at the expense of what we already possess. The painting invites viewers to reflect on their own desires and how, at times, we find ourselves taking more than our fair share, not out of necessity, but out of the thrill of indulgence.
